It seems that everywhere you look,...especially in the northeastern part of Indiana lake regions,...you see alot of Mercury Marine dealers,...and very few,if any,...Evinrude/Johnson dealers. What
does this tell you? It tells me that Mercury is the way to go
for alot of reasons. Dealer availability, parts and service availability, and of course, sales. After considering the purchase of another Lund A-14 utility boat,I was looking at motors such as Yamaha,Johnson,Honda, and even Tohatsu for power. I have decided
to forego those brands, and stick with Mercury for the reasons I have
stated. I was told by a dealer yesterday,...no,Monday,..that Mercury has 45% control of Tohatsu and even then Mercury's motors from 2.5 to 30 HP are Tohatsu made anyway. Johnsons are very hard to come by
now,and Evinrude's E-TEC is not down to the 15 HP range yet,anyway.
So I have to count them out.

This is a strange post from a dealer?? Lundman sounds like a dude shopping for motors and getting a bunch of BS from who knows who?

He is right about one thing, Mercs 2- 30 hp ARE made by Tohatsu, as are Nissan.Lower cost, Less corporate control and Less competition from big boxes and can cross over parts to Mercury if needed. No brainer for a dealer, not so clear to the consumer.

On the West Coast, Mercury dealers here are three to a block and trying to sell crusty inventory below cost just to keep their so called "territory" in tact. At the same time they have become warranty work droans for online retailers, no thank you.
Tohatsu pays 110% of shop labor rate (about $130 per hour now)
...what does Mercury pay?

If you want to stay in business and not continue to feed the corporate machine, go to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
Brunswicks 10 year Strategic Marketing Plan is to ween out the little dealers and make room for their own branded stores. See ya.

PS: To Merc dealers, Mercury will sell to ANYONE who wants to sell a motor package, money talks and their loyalty is for sale. Contracts are bogus and the dealer is the only one taking any risks.
